Description of Iceland
The Concise Publication of the European Union describes iceland in the following terms: [1] A member of the European Free Trade Association since 1970 and the European Economic Area since 1992, Iceland is strongly opposed to membership of the European Union, since that would mean accepting the Common Fisheries Policy, which would effectively destroy Iceland's all-important fishing industry.
